| Just bought an SLP line lock kit from a fellow racer and I'm trying to get ideas on where the best idea is to mount the toggle switch. Keep in mind this car is my daily driver and I have a 6- and 3-year old that sometimes climb around my car. I want the switch to be accessible but not in a place that's going to get accidently bumped and switched on. Also, I use the ashtray for change and the sunglass holder for my espresso coffee cards. Any ideas?? Oh, and did you use the toggle switch that came with the kit or did you swap it out for a push button switch?? Thanks in advance.

| Humm...I thought line locks all came with momentary push button switches of one type or another, not toggle switches.??? Where are your hands while doing the burn-out? Thats where it needs to be.... I'm just sayin'. Jeff~ | |

| Well, I dont know what was supposed to be with the kit, but it has a toggle. One hand is on the wheel and the other isn't touching anything its not supposed to...like the shifter (I have a tendency to rest my hand on the shifter and accidently shift it out of what gear its supposed to be in). I'm thinking about making using and wiring connector, something like a USB-ish kind of plug, so that I can have a separate switch with a short length of wire so I can just plug it in when I use it and cap the plug-in in the center console when I'm not. | |

| I went out to Radio Shack, Autozone and Lowes trying to find some stuff to fab up for my line lock switch setup, still haven't figured out what I'm going to do or where I'm going to put it. I think I might be overthinking it. | |

| I got the same kit for the Fbody and immediately tossed the toggle. Unfortunately I just got another one that had an LED on it so at least I would know that it's on, but I believe the recommendation is to use a momentary-contact (aka deadman switch) so that it can't accidently be left on. I installed that switch and a fan control switch on the middle console in a plastic trim piece that originally just held the ABS switch for our cars (and is just a plain plastic trim plate for those cars without ABS). Cheap /easily replaceable way to install (I can always just replace the trim plate for a few bucks later if I ever remove this stuff from the car or move it elsewhere).
They make shifters with buttons on them, but a much more expensive option, and may mess with your mojo if you like your shifter.
In the car stereo world I've seen trick installs using the cigarette lighter as a switch (to keep it stealth and of course if you don't smoke and/or use it). Disconnect the wires in back of the lighter from power, connect it to the circuit you want to trigger, then use solder to short out the heat coils. Pushing it in completes the circuit, but since it doesn't heat up, you have to work the metal so that it doesn't "stick" in (like until it would normally pop out on its own). This would be the same as the momentary-contact as mentions, but keeping in mind it isn't as simple as a switch and it may take quite a bit of tweaking to get comfortable with it (and depends on where its mounted as to where your hands normally are).
Now that you have me thinking about it, I kinda like that idea for myself...
I do like your USB-type plug idea as well, but wonder about having a loose switch/wires flying around at speed (probably more of a concern with stick shift). Though I think using just a plug itself as a key, this would make for a killer arming system (nitrous, electric cut-outs and the like) and a LED could fit in the hole the wire normally comes out of... Might help kid-proof the naughty bits a bit? Hmmm...
I really hate cutting into my car... Good luck!

Travis, McClenndons Hardware in Woodinville has micro switches. That is what I am going to use for my line lock.

| I like a seperate switch on a cord. I just picked up a momentary contact switch mounted in a handhold (about the size of a roll of Lifesavers) and some super flexible microphone cord. The conductors in the mic cord won't carry the current of the line lock solenoid, but I plan to use a simple relay for that.
I'll put a connector on the other end and fab up a spare so that it can be quick changed in case of a failure. I alway plan for failures and try to make every assembly as serviceable as possible. It has kept me in races before.
I get all my electrical stuff at a place called Vetco in Bellevue. They have every kind of switch, wire, breaker, tubing, electrical tool, connector that you can imagine.

Jeff~ nope, most kits come with a two position toggle switch I wanted a momentary switch, when looking, most weren't rated for enough current. as far as the OP's question mine is mounted on the lower dash, above my right knee I set the linelock, put the car in 2nd, grab the wheel. do my burnout, and reach down and flip the switch to spin out of the burnout box. then carry on
